• BURO NONE is a design workshop that provides architectural and interior design solutions, using advanced visual techniques for residential and small-scale commercial projects in Los Angeles, California. The workshop was founded in 2021 by Lena Larionova.

  • BURO NONE consists of only its founding member and it has an organized system and process of operation. From project start to finish, BURO NONE works closely with you in order to proffer your “dream home” visible, where your wants and needs enter the realm of the aesthetic.

  • The program of BURO NONE entails effacing the perfectly curated designer’s recognizable style. The focus thus is shifted towards the needs and preferences of those for whom the interiors are made. To put it simply, the interiors are not about BURO NONE, but about you, the client.

  • The work of BURO NONE strives to situate the positioning and coordinates of interior life. In a way, it can be said that the interior doesn’t exist. Interior is a carved out, negative and excluded space in a volume of a house. We inhabit this exclusion and this exclusion is a focus of the work of BURO NONE. In making the inside out, the work of BURO NONE is delineating this emptiness.

  • Having been born in the USSR in the late 80s, Lena has always been instigated by a specific non-belonging, both geographical and temporal. And as such, this inability to hold a place or to have time has provoked a non-ceasing interest in architecture and design.

    Lena received a Juris Doctor degree from Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs and her academic training in architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (NAAB), where she received an M.Arch 1 with Merits. She also holds an interior design and decoration degree from Details - Design School (IIDA) with Distinction.

    Lena had an honor of practicing for ROTO Architects, Ball-Nogues Studio, Lewin Wertheimer Architects and Eric Owen Moss Architects.

  • The name “BURO NONE” as a homophonic spelling of Bureau Number 1 or №1, is taken from the Soviet lineage of design bureaus, which were design institutions in the USSR. A bureau was officially identified by a number.

    “BURO” is pronounced just as “bureau”, like a piece of furniture or the derivative from bureaucracy. №1 is pronounced as “NONE” and as such, nulls the number 1 by bringing it to 0, which perhaps may render this design “Bureau”, in particular, as non-existent.
